The following message is from Meghan Milbrath. She has asked that we forward this on to club members.
Hello Beekeepers – Are you interested in hearing more about what is happening with bees in MI? Would you like to provide input for research ideas, or participate in bee research at MSU?
I would like to introduce myself to those of you I haven’t met, and to tell you about some new projects related to bees in Michigan. My name is Meghan Milbrath, and I have recently been hired as the coordinator of a new program – the Michigan Pollinator Initiative (MPI). The Initiative was created to deal with issues related to pollinators and pollination in the state of Michigan. It is housed at MSU, but we will be working with state agencies and conservation partners to take a more coordinated and comprehensive approach to dealing with ongoing and upcoming issues for bees. We will need your help and input as beekeepers/ stakeholders. I have created a mailing list as an easy way to communicate directly with those most involved. It would be used by me, as the coordinator of pollinator-related activities and research at MSU, and you all- the beekeepers. The list will be used to provide you with updates of current projects and research results, to solicit input and ideas for future research ideas, and to create a list of beekeepers who are interested in working with us on research projects. Many upcoming projects will require hives for monitoring, and we would like to know people who would be willing to work with researchers to that when a project becomes funded, we can get started right away. To sign up to be on the email list, please use the link here. If you have trouble accessing the link, please email me at mpi@msu.edu – send your full name and the email address you would like me to use, and I can add you. I look forward to meeting many of you and to working with you in the future.
